African Chapter
The African Chapter of the Solidarity Research Network (SRN) is a regional, transdisciplinary research circle that brings together African scholars, practitioners, and early-career researchers to advance the study and practice of solidarity from African perspectives. Established in March 2026, it operates within the broader SRN framework while developing its own agenda grounded in Ubuntu, social justice, and African intellectual agency.
Guided by the SRN Memorandum of Understanding, the Chapter contributes to collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and transformative action on global and local challenges such as inequality, migration, and social development. It emphasises inclusivity across disciplines and professional backgrounds, actively bridging academia and practice, and amplifying voices from the Global South.
As a self-organised “circle” within the SRN’s sociocratic structure, the African Chapter functions through regular meetings, shared governance, and collective initiatives such as conferences, publications, and capacity-building activities. Its core aim is to strengthen African contributions to global solidarity research while fostering collaboration, mutual learning, and context-sensitive knowledge production.
The African Chapter was founded by a diverse group of 9 active members across 3 countries (South Africa, Namibia and Kenya), combining academics and practitioners, reflecting the Chapter’s commitment to inclusivity and interdisciplinary collaboration.
